With a combination of extensive professional experience of otter surveying for both large and small developments and infrastructure projects, co-authorship of CIEEM’s Competencies for Species Survey: Eurasian Otter as well as upcoming NatureScot survey guidelines, and cutting edge research into otter ecology and evidence-based survey approaches, we offer training directly to organizations to ensure you can get the best out of your surveys. We have delivered training to ecologists from a range of organizations and received excellent feedback.
Our training offer consists of two modules that can be taken together over two days plus an online follow-up, or individually. To ask about availability and pricing please contact us.
Module 1 – Otter ecology and walkover surveys – 1 day
Suitable for a range of skill-levels from early career to senior ecologists wanting to develop their competencies in otter survey for them or their team, this day will focus on aspects of otter ecology that inform effective surveys, how to conduct evidence-led walkover surveys to identify important features such as resting places and how to write an effective report. This will include a field visit and classroom time.

Module 2 – Invasive surveys and camera-trapping – 1 day + follow up online session (2 hours)
Suitable as a follow on from module 1 or a standalone module for anyone wanting to get licensed for otter survey, this day will focus on invasive survey approaches and camera-trapping to assess potential enclosed resting places, and would involve classroom time. There will be exercises for delegates to do after the training and an online follow up session organized several days or weeks later.
